The Military in the News, Our U.S. Armed Forces USO, overseas, on land the sea,and air,: Recipients of the 2007 Minnesota Military Appreciation Fund (MMAF) Purple Heart Grant. Two recipients of the award who were not able to attend were Army Sgt. Robert Bleninger and Marine Corps Master Sgt. Michael Cave whom were both injured while serving in Iraq. MMAF is a non-profit, non-partisan organization calling on Minnesotans to say thanks to Minnesota military and their families who have served in combat overseas since September 2001. Since it launched in August of 2005, MMAF has raised over six million dollars, making it the largest organization of its kind in the nation. To date, it has distributed more than 4,600 grants totaling approximately three million dollars.
